To a certain extent...yes; but on the other hand...no.
Adhesive decals, for all intensive purposes, are meant to be used in a permanent fashion. So yes, relatively speaking, decals are a permanent form of branding. Decals have an adhesive backing that when applied to a surface permanently bonds the decal into place. And whether your idea of a permanent decal means 6 months to 3 years to 7 years, when purchasing decals, know that they will do just that depending on the type of adhesive vinyl you choose since decals are printed onto different types of adhesive vinyl materials.
Now that the point has been made that when you purchase decals they are meant to be permanent, let's move onto the contradiction in that statement. While decals are most definitely permanent they are also removable. Most decals have a strong adhesive so that they can effectively stick to surfaces for long portions of time. But at the end of the day, once you feel like removing your decal, it can be removed.
And therein lies the beauty of purchasing decals. In the past you had to paint decals onto a surface, and as we all know with painting, to replace or remove the painted decal you have to paint over it. Painting can be very tedious and expensive, whereas purchasing and applying printed adhesive decals, is fairly hassle-free and inexpensive. And adhesive vinyl decals can be used for so so many things like vehicle graphics, window graphics, wall graphics, lettering, floor graphics, labels, bumper stickers, etc.
All you'll need to do is make sure you clean your intended surface and apply your decal. The decal will be there for as long as you want until you remove it. And once you remove the decal, you can easily replace it with another decal, without having to worry about damaging the underlying surface (or repainting for that matter). The only catch is that once you remove the decal it isn't reusable. Decals are a one-time use product. If you remove a decal it will not stick to any other surface again.
